A long soak in the bath can fix many of life’s problems. Good for the body and good for the soul, bath salts are a lovely addition to help you wind down. Follow our super easy recipe to whip up a little treat for the tub.
½ Cup Epsom Salts
1 Tbsp Coarse Sea Salt
20 Drops of Essential Oils
Optional dried herbs/flowers such as lavender, lemongrass or chamomile
1. Grab a small mason jar and pour in the epsom salts. Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) helps to soothe tired muscles by relieving lactic acid build-up. It’s a great addition to your bath whether you’ve run a marathon, or marathoned your favourite Netflix show. Your tub won’t judge.
2. Add a heaping tablespoon of sea salts to soften the water. The sea salts also help to deeply cleanse your skin and draw out toxins.
3. Now it’s time to pick your essential oils. Feel free to mix and match here to get your perfect scent combo. If you’re in need of a pick me up, lemongrass and sweet orange are one of my favourite duos as an uplifting blend. Peppermint also packs a punch with its fresh fragrance. It can be a little overpowering though so go easy with it - five drops is probably enough. Taking your bath before bed? Lavender would be a good choice to help you drift off into sweet dreams.
4. If you’re feeling fancy, you can also add some extras such as dried lemongrass, chamomile or lavender. Bear in mind that these bits don’t dissolve so you’ll need to give your tub a spray down after.
Tip: Place your bath salts in an organza bag or cheesecloth before you run your bath water, so the botanicals stay in one place for easy clean up.
5. Finish off with the salt shake! Give your jar a good shake to ensure all the essential oils are well mixed with the salts.
Now all that’s left to do is run a nice, warm bath to pop your salts into. To gain the benefits from the salts, soak for 20-30 minutes, or longer if you wish. Pruney fingers and toes are just a sign that you’ve made the most of your bath!
These also make a great gift. The recipe can easily be scaled up to treat all your friends and family. The mason jar does most of the presentation work for you - just pop a ribbon or gift tag on and you’re good to go.

Disappointing. Would have been much more helpful the article had given me an idea of WHAT & how much of the essential oils to use for say the discontinued “Rescue” bath salts!! I have terrible fibromyalgia & the Rescue bath salts were THE only thing that at some points seemed to help. I’m not sure why RMSC would discontinue a product that provided such relief to many users!
