What goes on, goes in. Did you know your skin absorbs anywhere from 21 – 100% of what you put on it? Since your skin has the ability to absorb, and body tissue has the ability to store, toxins add up. The toxic load in your body at any given time is called Body Burden.
The personal care and cosmetics industry in the U.S. and Canada lacks the regulation we need to ensure harmful ingredients including carcinogens and known skin irritants stay out of the products we put on our body. While the European Union has banned over 1500 ingredients commonly found in cosmetics, the U.S. and Canada have only banned a small fraction. Consumers are expected to do their own research and decide what is best. Power to the people right?!
You’re probably thinking ‘ain’t nobody got time for that’ and we’re right there with you. Shopping for shampoo, face cream and your kid’s lotion shouldn’t be a research project. Surely there is an easier way to navigate this. Luckily there is: it’s called Clean Beauty.
It’s not just a trend, but a movement - parallel to what we’ve seen with the food industry. Consumers are becoming more educated and intentional about their purchases by voting with their dollars thus gaining the attention of big company decision-makers and governments.
The movement is about embracing small-batch over mass-produced. It’s paying attention to the makers behind the products, respecting growers of the ingredients and turning to nature.
Since the very beginning, we at Rocky Mountain Soap Co. have been pioneers of clean beauty, only we call it the Toxin-Free movement. It started with bar soap and now has grown to be a lot more than that. Our core purpose is to remove toxins from the world by creating products with the strictest ingredient standards so the guesswork is removed for the consumer. When we say 100% natural, there’s proof in the pudding - or rather, in the day cream.
We operate with the belief that products are only truly natural when the environments in which they are made and sold are also natural, which means we’re very intentional about ensuring our Workshop and stores are toxin-free and environmentally friendly.
It’s not an easy business to be in. It means ingredient costs are high and our selection of quality suppliers are low. But it is so worth it and when we see the clean beauty industry grow and big cosmetic companies starting to make positive changes in the way they do their business, we celebrate.
