Beeswax is the bees knees! Carefully crafted by the noble worker bee, bees use beeswax to line the structure of a honeycomb, where all the beautiful honey they produce is stored. After harvest, the beekeeper melts and purifies the beeswax, and some of it will find its way into our organic body butters, soap and other skin care products.
With its aromatic, therapeutic and dermatological properties, beeswax is one of nature’s most versatile ingredients. It's used in candles, sealing wax, natural chewing gums and, most importantly, as an essential skincare ingredient that hydrates, moisturizes, cleanses and heals.
Moisturizing
Beeswax naturally soothes and protects dry and sore skin by creating a moisture barrier. It draws moisture to our skin and then seals it in. The soft, pliable wax penetrates deeply into the skin for long lasting moisture. When skin cells are well moisturized, they plump up creating smooth skin and reducing visible wrinkles.
Environmental Protection
Beeswax also acts as a layer of protection, protecting the skin from environmental irritants and even the weather. Rich body butters made with beeswax act as a surfactant, forming a protective barrier on the surface of the skin. This barrier provides a film of protection against irritants, while still allowing the skin to breathe. Contrary to ingredients containing petroleum, that are notorious for suffocating our skin, clogging pores, and aggravating dry skin -- beeswax offers thirst-quenching protection for your skin!
Antibacterial
Beeswax contains small amounts of natural antibacterial agents. which help maintain your skin’s cleanliness and fight contamination. Beeswax even helps to prevent the growth of bacteria and fungus, and may be used to help bacterial skin conditions.
Healing Properties
The hypoallergenic and anti-inflammatory properties of beeswax soothes irritated skin, making it one of the best skin care ingredients for those who suffer from allergies or skin conditions, like rosacea or eczema. The anti-germicidal properties of beeswax have been found to help heal minor skin cuts, abrasions, scrapes and wounds.
