Cool brisk air, rich amber hues, and fields of big glorious pumpkins. Yes, our favourite fall vegetable is back! Packed with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and enzymes, and just in the nick of time! With winter right around the corner, we're all going to need a little help from this powerhouse to get our skin through the next several months.

can of pumpkin We use a can of Canadian pumpkin puree as a main ingredient in our Pumpkin Bar Soap.

Here are our favourite reasons why pumpkin is so great for our skin:

Packed with Antioxidants

Pumpkin is loaded with antioxidants. Every day we're exposed to free radicals—through polluted air, environmental toxins, stress, and our sometimes lacklustre diet—that causes damage to our skin cells. The antioxidants found in pumpkins protect our skin cells by neutralizing these free radicals. Like superheroes, really! They keep our skin structures intact, and prevent wrinkles and other signs of aging.

C is for Collagen

One of the most abundant antioxidants found in pumpkin is Vitamin C. Vitamin C is required for the production of collagen and elastin, the connective proteins that maintain the firmness and elasticity of our skin.

Rocky Tip: Eating vitamin C rich foods also helps promote collagen production, which over time can improve skin tone and elasticity.

Orange is the New Black

Pumpkin is loaded with alpha-carotene, beta-carotene and other carotenoids, giving pumpkins their bright orange colour. Pumpkin’s high levels of beta-carotene help to increase cell turnover and fight bacteria and inflammation in our skin. Beta-carotene also plays another special role, by converting into active vitamin A -- or retinol -- which is required for healthy skin.

Rocky Tip:Eating foods that are a good source of carotenoids may also help to reverse sun damage and improve skin texture. You know, in case you needed an excuse to order that Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Say Goodbye to Acne

Pumpkin seeds are such a great source of zinc. But what does zinc have to do with clearing up pimples, blemishes, and blackheads? A lot. In fact, the main mineral found in most acne treatment products is...you guessed it, zinc! Zinc works by helping our bodies control both the hormone levels and oil production that are linked to acne breakouts.

Natural Alternative to Chemical Peels

Pumpkin is packed with fruit enzymes and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). These natural and effective exfoliators for your skin help to remove the dead skin cells from the surface, revealing a youthful glow. Alpha hydroxy acids have been used for centuries as a skin rejuvenating product and are a gentle alternative to harsh chemical peels. The perfect ingredient to keep your skin looking its best over the dry winter months.
