All Rocky Mountain Soap products are imagined and made with careful thought and intention. It is no different when it comes to the design of our 11 retail stores. We source local materials where possible, upcycling and recycling to reduce waste and avoiding toxins at every step. Similar to how we have a Red List for our products, we created a Red List for our builds to outline materials that would never have a place in the construction of our stores.

Our Red List for building materials in our stores:

  • Asbestos
  • Cadmium
  • Chlorinated Polyethylene and Chlorosulfonated Polyethlene
  • Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs)
  • Chloroprene (Neoprene)
  • Formaldehyde
  • Halogenated Flame Retardants
  • Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs)
  • Lead
  • Mercury
  • Petrochemical Fertilizers and Pesticides
  • Phthalates
  • Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
  • Wood treatments containing creosote, arsenic or pentachlorophenol

Just this past week, we opened the doors to our new store at Chinook Mall in Calgary. Our old location was intended as a three month pop up in 2014, which turned into 3 years as it was so well-received! So when we found a new location to call our permanent home, we were able to completely rebuild and redesign the retail space the way we dreamed; having handmade touches where possible, using toxin-free materials and aiming to reduce the store’s overall carbon footprint.

The walls are ‘painted’ with natural clay. Our tall windows allow natural light into the space, helping our plants to thrive.

The store was designed to create a clean, natural space to experience our products that are inspired by nature, good for the earth and safe for your family. Be sure to come check us out on the second level in the new wing, across from Fossil and Pandora.

That’s not all: In the same week we got a simple, natural makeover of our Winnipeg location in Polo Park, bringing in the same elements of clay panels, reclaimed wood and images of nature to add warmth and liveliness to the space.

We are in love with all 11 of our retail spaces and we are so excited to share them with each of you. In a world of fast fashion and take out, we believe in taking the time to slow down and indulge, by caring for yourself and our world. Nature feels good, so come experience it for yourself at one of our stores!
