Even though the clocks roll back this week giving us an extra hour of sleep (come to mama!), doesn’t it strangely feel like our energy drops down a few notches? With the shorter days, crisper mornings, it’s that much harder to muster motivation to do much else than hibernate.
Instead of reaching for coffee over and over again (then getting a post-caffeine crash), we’ve curated a list of healthy drinks to give you the boost of energy you need through this sleepy season.
KARINA’S FRESH JUICE
“Once a week, I’ll make a big batch of homemade juice with fresh ingredients then portion it into jars and store it in the fridge for the rest of the week. Me and family will grab one every morning as breakfast on-the-go. It’s super easy, energizing and ensures we all get a really good portion of nutrients. I use a Champion Juicer but you can use any kind of juicer appliance.”
My favourite go-to juice combo is celery and cucumber or orange and mint.
MATCHA
Matcha is whole green tea leaves crushed into a fine powder resulting in a gorgeous green colour, that is full of antioxidants. Polyphenols are found in high concentrations in green tea, and have been associated with heart disease and cancer prevention. Matcha does contain caffeine but is known to have a more sustained release without the crash. You can prepare it straight with hot but not boiling water, in latte form with warm milk or milk alternative. If you prefer cold drinks, try it with fizzy tonic water or whip up this easy Coconut Water Matcha Energy Drink.
LEMON & HONEY
Lemon and honey are a great low-calorie combo to warm up your digestive system at the start of the day. Raw honey isn’t just sugar - it contains unique properties that benefit the body such as being an antiseptic and antioxidant. Citrus fruit juices are detoxifying so the combo together can aid digestion and help flush out toxins.
TURMERIC HOT CHOCOLATE
A little bit of caffeine, a whole lot of flavour. Try this twist on a golden turmeric latte - a turmeric hot chocolate that combines nutritious almond milk with anti-inflammatory turmeric, immune boosting ginger, and energizing raw cacao powder that makes it a great substitute for your daily java.
